## What salsa is

Salsa is a partner dance to Afro-Caribbean music with Cuban roots, shaped in New York and Puerto Rico. It is counted in eight beats with three steps and a pause on each half: 1-2-3, pause, 5-6-7, pause. That quick-quick-slow rhythm, plus turns and playful footwork, is what makes salsa feel so energetic.
